At a glance

An estimate in four columns

Every body shop estimate follows the same layout: four columns, read from left to right.

Operation

The work planned for each damaged part: repair, replace, paint and so on.

Description

The parts of your vehicle that the repair will involve.

Part type

Where the part comes from and its quality, together with its part number.

Labour hours

The standard duration, in hours, allotted to carry out the operation shown.

Terms to know

Frequent operations

Overhaul

An assembly is taken apart, cleaned and inspected; any parts needed are replaced, then it is reassembled and adjusted on the vehicle.

Overlap

When neighbouring parts are replaced, some operations overlap. A deduction keeps the same work from being billed twice.

Repair

The original part is kept and repaired for the number of hours shown.

Refinishing

A part or assembly is painted to bring back the original colour.

Colour blending

The paint is adjusted to match the vehicle's, then feathered into the adjacent panel so no colour difference shows.

Remove and install

A part is taken off and set aside, then refitted later.

Remove and replace

A part or assembly is taken off and swapped for another one.

Sublet

Work that the body shop hands over to another company.

Added operation

Extra work required depending on the year, make and model, for example applying a clear coat.

About the parts

Parts are not all alike

The choice of parts fitted to your vehicle is yours. Here is what sets each category apart, so you can decide with confidence.

Original parts

Built to the same specifications as the parts used when your vehicle was assembled.

Remanufactured parts

Restored in line with the manufacturer's specifications. When they come from a Nissan dealer, they are guaranteed to be compatible with your vehicle.

Reconditioned or refurbished parts

Their origin is often unknown, and quality and fit are harder to confirm.

Aftermarket parts

Produced by other companies to imitate the original parts, often by copying them. Quality is uneven.

Used parts

Salvaged from vehicles that were in accidents or written off as unrepairable. Their origin, condition and durability are unknown.

Tip: before approving the work, ask in writing what type of parts will be used and check what your insurance policy covers.
