An orange or red symbol just lit up? Here is what it means, whether you have to stop and when to get in touch with us.

To start

Your vehicle is sending a signal

Your Nissan keeps an eye on its main systems at all times and flags the slightest issue. These are the warning lights our service team encounters most often.

Depends on your vehicle

Warning lights and what they mean can differ from one model to another. For your vehicle, always refer to the owner’s manual or get in touch with our Service team.

The most frequent ones

How to react to each light

Anti-lock braking system (ABS)

The light flashes on briefly at start-up then goes out: that is normal. If it lights up while the engine is running or as you drive, the system must be checked.

  • Your brakes still work, but without anti-lock assistance.
  • The wheels could therefore lock up during hard braking or on a slippery road.
  • Drive with care and book an appointment for an inspection.

Airbags

The light comes on for a few seconds at start-up then goes out: the systems are working. If it stays lit, flashes or never comes on, there is a problem.

  • If a fault is present, the airbags and seat belt pretensioners may not work in a crash.
  • Have your vehicle inspected as soon as possible.

Braking system

A fault in the braking system can lessen braking effectiveness and become dangerous. Drive only if it is safe.

  • If there is a leak, if the pedal does not brake effectively, or if you are unsure, have the vehicle towed instead of driving it.
  • If the light comes on while the engine is running and the parking brake is released, pull over as soon as it is safe, then check the owner’s manual or contact our Service team.

Malfunction indicator (engine)

The engine could require servicing.

  • Steady light: begin by making sure the fuel cap is in place and tight.
  • Flashing light: a fault is possible. Slow down, avoid hard acceleration and have the vehicle checked without delay.
  • Driving with a flashing light may damage vehicle components.

Engine oil pressure

Oil pressure is low. Letting the engine run like this can severely damage it: do not drive as long as the light is on.

  • Check the oil level and top up if necessary, to the recommended level.
  • Low pressure does not always point to a low level. If the level is adequate or a leak is visible, a fault is possible: have the vehicle checked.

Tire pressure

One or more tires could be low on air, which often happens at the first cold snap, or the monitoring system might not be working well.

  • When it is safe, check your tire pressure and inflate to the values on the vehicle’s label.
  • The light may not turn off immediately after inflation: refer to the owner’s manual for the procedure.
  • If it remains on after you check the tires, or flashes at start-up, have the system checked.

This information is general and does not replace your vehicle’s owner’s manual.
